"A tradition of Junior and College Placement"

 Tri State

The Tri-State Selects Ice Hockey Organization is a Junior Hockey program located in Southeastern Pennsylvania.  Our home rink is the Warwick-Ice-Arena in Warwick, Pa  www.warwickicearena.com
Our program is committed to providing top student-athletes with 3 core services; development, exposure and college placement.

Tri State's top team competes at the Empire Jr B level. The Empire league is widely considered the top Jr B league in the country and was recently touted by USA Hockey as putting more kids into college than any other Jr B league in the US. Being able to ensure that your son is going to move on and have an opportunity to play college hockey after learning and developing in our program should be a top consideration when evaluating perspective teams and what fit is right for you.

The Empire league is made up of 19 member teams. Of those 19, 12 have Eastern Junior Hockey League (Jr A) franchises above them. As a result, there is a strong connection between the EJ and Empire which makes it easy to move deserving players up and down during or after a season.

Being one of 7 independent organizations Tri State has the advantage of using the relationship between the EJ and Empire to constantly monitor where a potential Jr A opportunity may exist. By not being tied to one organization, we can send our players around the league to skate with EJHL teams we feel give our kids the best opportunity to play at the next level and be seen. This approach has helped us be very successful with player placement in the past two seasons.

Development
Each member of our coaching staff has extensive experience playing and/or coaching at the Jr A, Prep, NCAA D-I, D-III and Professional level as forwards, defenseman and goaltenders. From this experience, we create an environment that mimics the day to day challenges our athletes would expect to see at the next level. We are on the ice 3 times a week for 6 hours and train off the ice 2 times a week mainly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This structure gives us an opportunity to focus on individual skill development and core strength training early in the week and also have time later in the week for systems play and team concepts. Both are key ingredients to overall player development.

Our head coach, Mike Anderson, has experience winning championships at the Jr A (EJHL), Prep and D-I College level having been a Captain of the 2001 MAAC Champion UCONN Huskies. "We believe in expanding the comfort level of each kid on our hockey team. It's different for everyone depending on where they are in their development. It's our job to recognize that and coach them accordingly. This season our kids have seen gains of over 20% in their core body strength through our off ice program, one reason why we have not had one game missed due to injury all year. On the ice our kids have gotten looks from Princeton, Williams, St. Michaels, Framingham State, Skidmore, Yale, Hamilton, Union among others as well as every team in the EJHL and many in the USHL and OHL. As a Jr B developmental organization I believe that's our job and I believe the Empire-EJ relationship gives kids the best opportunity out there to develop and play at the next level".

Exposure
In the 2007-08 season our Jr B team will have had 8 players skate with 7 different EJHL teams, 3 players invited to the USHL prospects camp in Chicago, 1 play in the World Junior Nationals U20, 1 go to OHL free agent camp, 3 make commitments to NCAA ECAC D-III Universities and 2 more to ACHA D-I schools. It's been our most successful season of player movement in the young history of the organization.

Many of this would not have been possible had it not been for the quality reputation of the Empire league, the Tri State coaching staff and the various showcases and non-league tournaments that we competed in throughout the season. "We're an organization that is selfless and work tirelessly for our players. We expect the same effort in return from them so it helps keep us in check to make sure we're giving them every opportunity possible to pursue their dreams".

In todays recruiting process many difficult decisions have to be made in terms of which player moves up and which one is left behind. One major factor in that selection process is academics. As an organization, our Jr B players are required to submit copies of their report cards each semester to the coaching staff to make sure they are staying in line academically. If not, adjustments can be made to accomodate that player and give them an opportunity to raise their grades. Balancing hockey with school work and every day life is critical in giving yourself the best chance to move on and play at the next level.

College Placement
With a coaching staff that has played and coached in the NCAA college ranks, we have established a strong base of contacts that allows us to give our kids an added level of exposure. Sometimes sending video on one of your top players to a D-I college assistant that you used to play with, is enough to get that school to come watch him play and give an evaluation.

Every showcase and select home and away weekends are filled with College, Jr A, and in some cases Pro scouts there to watch our hockey team compete. This year, for example, 3 of our EJHL showcases were represented by over 100 NCAA College, Junior and Professional coaches and scouts.

"To summarize our organizations belief system I'd say this; we're young so we have not yet developed a 'tradition of winning' but more so a tradition and reputation for what was talked about above. While winning is important in some ways, I believe that takes care of itself if your foundation and the product you build it on is solid. Our organzation gives kids an opportunity to learn, grow as players and people, gain top notch exposure and scouting opportunities at the next level all while being challenged at a very high level each and every game. We don't just have one or two good teams in our league. We have 19 quality programs and you can't recreate the growth and development that takes place by being challenged each time out versus only a handful of times a year. I think it's time people evaluate what is truley important in an development process and make sound decisions from there"- Mike Anderson.

The Empire places more kids into College than any other Jr B league in the country- USA Hockey.

More players have moved up to the EJHL from the Empire league than from all other leagues in the country combined(Midget, MET, Prep etc)
